1.       Project Name:                  Tralee Community Drugs Initiative    

2.       Job Title:                    Drugs Project Worker 

3.       Reporting to:                   North & East Kerry Development Board of Management & the Project Advisory Group 

4.       Salary and Benefits:          Salary Range - €32,462 - €41,723Based on training, qualifications and experience 

5.       Location:               Your primary place of work will be in the offices of North & East Kerry Development, Tralee office. However, due to the nature of this project a large amount of time will be given to outreach work within the community 

6.          Job Purpose:             The Tralee Community Drugs Initiative aims to provide low threshold intervention to young people who are displaying signs of problematic drug and alcohol mis-use in the Tralee urban area. 

7.       Areas of responsibility  Client:

  • Providing outreach one-to-one support sessions for the client group in a safe, confidential environment, which could include accompanying clients to relevant agencies and treatment centres.
 
  • Supporting our client group to develop the necessary skills to agree short, medium, and long-term goals which will facilitate behavioural change.
 
  • Supporting clients to attend pre-admission meetings to residential treatment programmes.
 
  • Maintaining continuous contact with the client groups who are participating in outpatient and residential treatment programmes.
 
  • Providing ancillary supports to our clients such as massage, homeopathy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, etc which will enable them to deal with the stress/ withdrawal effects without recourse to drug use.
 
  • Ensuring all clients will be offered the opportunity to participate in group work intervention programmes where relevant which will be offered by the Tralee Community Drugs project.
 Promotion: 
  • To provide relevant support, information and referral services to individuals and families in the project area.
 
  • Informing the local GP’s and other relevant medical professionals of the Tralee Community Drugs Project.
 
  • Pro-actively disseminate information on the project to our target groups regularly.
 Inter-agency: 
  • Work in a collaborative manner  with the project advisory group members and organisations to achieve better outcomes for the project.
 
  • Strategically work with the HSE counselling and advisory service to ensure maximum service provision for the project client group.
 
  • Maintaining an arrest referral system in co-operation with the Tralee Gardai.
 
  • Networking and liaising for the benefit of the client group with relevant local agencies as required.
 Other: 
  • Collate data on the classification of substances being used by clients of the   project via the Health Research Board online reporting system.
 
  • Develop, support and maintain Good Practice Guidelines in responding to Substance Misuse Issues locally.
 
  • Attend regular meetings of the Southern Regional Drug Task Force regional workers netwok.
 
  • Attend regular NEKD team meetings and other internal meetings as requested
 
  • Attend external and internal support and supervision sessions on a regular basis in accordance with NEKD supervision policy.
