Family Support evening held in Mallow

A very successful Family Support evening, under the theme of "Coming Together/Growing Together" was held in Mallow on 28th July.

Here family members, linked in to SRDTF run Family Support groups, saw a presentation by a Family Support Group from Clonmel, heard about a new Health Promotion Initiative promoting Family Meals and heard about the Strengthening Families Programme.

After a short break, discussion took place about how best to develop a Network of Family Support Groups in the Region and looked at how exisiting Family Support groups may wish to be involved with the forthcoming Getting a Grip Conference and also a Drugs Awareness week in their localities.

SRDTF see the evening as a first step in the development of a Regional Family Support Network, which will allow the voice of the family to be heard within the Task Force.

The evening was also an opportunity for Family Members to see that the issues they are facing in their families are common across the region, and that in coming forward to seek support, that the process of healing can begin.

Families affected by Drug and Alcohol issues are encouraged to join or make contact with local groups, details of which can be found by contacting the nearest Community Drugs Initative, details of which can be found on this website.
